Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe it is already October. Where does the time go? I would like to share a few updates, so you remain in the loop on all the wonderful things happening in the Lower School this month.
Fifth graders who have joined a Diversity Book Club have received their books. We look forward to discussing them over pizza on October 21.
This Friday, October 4, is Lovett Homecoming. We are excited about the annual Homecoming parade and cheering our team to victory when we play Washington County. In honor of this very special weekend, we will have a Lower School blue and white NUD on Friday, October 4.
A few weeks ago I received a parent request to consider making my webpage more accessible and interactive. This helpful parent shared a wonderful article, entitled How to Miss a Childhood, that I have posted on my section of the administrative website (http://lovettlsadmin.weebly.com/principals-page1.html). Since then, I have added one more article shared by a Lower School teacher, entitled Parents Who Encourage Reading See Education Rewards. I will continue to post articles of interest throughout the year, in addition to newsletters, photos, and brief videos of your children in action. With that in mind, we have provided a space for you to comment; please look for the “add comment” button beneath each post. You will find more detailed instructions on how you might leave your thoughts when you click in the top right-hand sidebar of my page. Every lead and resource teacher has a link to the principal’s page on their class website.
Class pictures for Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2 will be on Tuesday, October 8. Class pictures for Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be on Wednesday, October 9. If your child was absent for individual portraits, the retake day is Friday, October 25. I am pleased to tell you that Peachtree Portraits will be going to “digital” on-line ordering in 2014-15 for individual portraits.
There are several important events happening in the next couple of weeks.
Carpool continues to be a topic of discussion. Those of you picking up students in Grades 1-5 and who arrive before 2:25 pm (our suggested earliest time of arrival) are asked to stop at the bottom of the hill and remain there until 2:25 pm. The first person in line should put on the car hazard lights. Others should queue up in the far right lane behind that car. No one, other than parents picking up a kindergarten student or taking a child out of school early, should pass the line of cars. At the bottom of this email is a link to a list of procedures for late afternoon pick-up. If your child is involved in any after-school activities at Lovett, please take a moment to read the document.
In order to ensure the safety of children on the sidewalk and faculty on duty, cell phone conversations must be completed once cars begin moving into the Lower School circle. Please be advised, the faculty has been asked not to put children into a car if the driver is on a cell phone.
If you have a check for Brownies or Boy Scouts, please place it in the designated folder on Darlene’s desk. No check should be given to a child to take home to a troop leader.
Warm regards,
Mary Baldwin
Lower School Principal
