Dear Parents,
At long last it feels that spring is really here. April will be a busy month and I would like to share some information that may help you plan.
In honor of World Autism Awareness Day, we will have a "Light it Up Blue" NUD tomorrow, April 2. Children are asked to wear something blue.
Father’s/Special Persons Day is this Friday, April 4, at 8:15 am for second grade and 9:45 am for fourth grade. We look forward to seeing all of our dads.
In order to provide more support to our new 2014-15 Lower School families, we are making some changes to our current buddy program. Our new Lower School buddy program will consist of family circles rather than just child-to-child buddies. This program will be called “Circle of Families.”
We are reaching out to our current K-4 families to volunteer to be a member of a Circle and provide support to our new families. The number of families needed from each grade level will vary depending on admission numbers. Ideally, a Circle will consist of 2 new families and 2 current families in the same grade level. This will give an opportunity for the children to meet and become friends with the new children in their Circle. Training for mentor families will be held in the beginning of May. We will host a pizza dinner for the Circles to meet one another on Wednesday, May 14, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the Pope Gym.
The responsibilities of a Circle family will include the following:
As you begin thinking ahead toward summer, please consider having your child work on math skills. You may order a Grade 1-5 Everyday Math workbook that will support this practice. You should order the book the matches your child’s current grade level. The order form is below.
The Lower School only will have a teacher workday on Thursday, April 17. Lower School students will not come to school on that day; however, Middle and Upper School will be in session. There is no change to Lovett’s Easter holiday. We will not have school on Good Friday, April 18, and Easter Monday, April 21. Students will return on Tuesday, April 22. Since April 22 is Earth Day, we will have an “earthy tones” NUD.
The Culture Crew designed t-shirts that are available for pre-order!
Please go to http://lslanguage2.weebly.com/ and click on the Culture Crew tab for the order form. Let's celebrate all we are doing to make the Lower School a No Place For Hate, as designated by the Anti-Defamation League!
Warm regards,
Mary Baldwin
